The Eswatini Domain Name Information Centre (EDNIC)
The country code Top Level Domain is amongst the national resources that must be managed fairly in the public interest. It was in terms of Regulation 4 (1) of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2016, that the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) established a stakeholder forum composed of all parties with a vested interest in the.sz domain name space. The main objective of the Regulation is to ensure that the administration and registration of.sz domain name is done in a manner that is transparent, fair, and non-discriminatory to every stakeholder with a vested interest in the ccTLD within the country.
It was in this regard that a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) was established in 2019 to guide ESCCOM on the best way to operationalize and administer the country code top-level domain. It was through recommendations of the Technical Advisory Committee that a Stakeholder Alliance should be established whose members represent the Internet community. As part of the process to implement the recommendations of the report, In March 2017 the Commission appointed members of the Stakeholder Alliance.
The Mandate
- The Eswatini Domain Name Information Centre (EDNIC) is the administrator and regulatory policy body for the.SZ ccTLD is mandated by the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM).
- ESCCOM is mandated by the Electronic Communications (Domain-name Registration) Regulations 2016, to establish a stakeholder forum for the administration of the Country Top-Level Domain.SZ and to that extent has resolved to establish a non-profit entity named Eswatini Domain-name Information Centre (EDNIC), herein.
- EDNIC is responsible for the administration of the.SZ namespace, ensuring the zone information is accurate, up-to-date, and continuously available.
